CHRISTMAS IN BRITAIN

CHRISTMAS IN BRITAIN
In the weeks before Christmas, people send Christmas cards to all their friends. Many children make their cards at school. They also decorate their houses.

CHRISTMAS EVE IN BRITAIN (December 24)
Christmas Eve is a happy day, especially for children.
Night time on Christmas Eve is a very exciting time for young children. It is the time when Father Christmas comes.
The children leave pies and brandy for Father Christmas, and a carrot for the reindeer.
On Christmas Eve everyone puts their presents under the tree.
Children hang Christmas stockings for Father Christmas, who will fill them up with presents, if the children have been good. During the night Father Christmas comes down the chimney and puts presents in the stockings.

CHRISTMAS DAY IN BRITAIN (December 25)
Everyone opens their presents on Christmas morning, It is the favourite day for children. They wake up very early in the morning to find their stockings have been filled by Father Christmas.
For Christmas dinner people eat roast turkey, roast potatoes, green vegetables and sauces. Then they have the Christmas Pudding. After dinner they pull crackers and put on paper hats.
Traditionally a Christmas cracker is placed next to each plate on Christmas dinner table. When the crackers are pulled out falls a gift, a toy, a crown or a joke.
They also sing Christmas carols.
